Bessie Smith and the Blues
Liz Dicks

The spellbinding music, which brought blues singer Bessie Smith to the world's attention back in the 1920's, is recreated by local jazz singer Liz Dicks, in her one woman Fringe show "Bessie Smith and the Blues". Liz takes us on a musical journey through the 1920's and early 1930's and captures the very essence of the Empress of the Blues.
"Liz can sing and swing a blues till the ceiling falls down, and then sing a ballad with such honesty, fragility and beauty, it makes the birds listen and cry." (Liane Carroll)
